Play-Based Therapy

Therapy that uses play as the primary way children express themselves and process emotions.

How it works

Play is their language

Play-based therapy is a developmentally appropriate approach to counseling and psychotherapy that uses play as the primary way children express themselves, process emotions, and solve problems. For kids, play is their language - and toys, games, and stories are their words.

In our sessions, children might use puppets, sand, board games, art materials, or imaginative play to:

Work through big feelings or life changes

Build emotional awareness and coping tools

Practice problem-solving and social skills

Strengthen their sense of safety, confidence, and identity

Purposeful Play

Play-based therapy is especially helpful for children who may struggle to explain what they're thinking or feeling. Guided by a registered child therapist, the play becomes purposeful and healing. This is always done at the child’s pace and rooted in trust and connection.
